Death in Venice Gelato Co. is a Toronto, Ontario based one-of-a-kind gourmet gelato shop, nay gelato lab, featuring award-winning flavours thoughtfully crafted by former chemical engineer turned chef, Kaya Ogruce. You could call Kaya a mad (food) scientist, because it’s his experiments with food science and locally sourced dairy and produce that gives life to the brand’s imaginative selection of sustainably produced frozen desserts.

As soon as you step into Death in Venice Gelato Co.’s Dundas St West location and take a peek at the freezer filled with palate-treating flavours like Ricotta Rosemary Lemon, Smoked Pecan Butter Tart, or Coconut and Pandan, you know you’re in for a treat. In fact, it's easy to see why gourmet grocers like McEwan Fine Foods and boutique hospitality brands like Ace Hotel offer Death in Venice’s gelatos and sorbets to their discerning customers.


However, moving beyond in-store sales to B2B business required outsourcing the task to a reliable frozen food delivery service – this proved especially challenging for Kaya and the Death in Venice team. “Their products were absolutely in high demand, but every delivery service they tried… drivers were just too impatient, leaving orders to melt at the loading dock, rather than waiting for the customer’s receiving team,” says Sarah Brown, our founder, recalling her first phone call with Kaya in the summer of 2022, a referral from long-time BLSH Delivery customer Butter & Spice. Kaya wanted a delivery partner who understood the service aspect of managing B2B accounts and would act as an extension of their business.

Since our professional drivers are not incentivized to maintain acceptance rates or other counter-productive driver statuses, and they’re trained in offering quality delivery service, we knew we could solve Kaya and team’s problems around impatient drivers and reliably deliver their frozen desserts.
